Coach's Corner: The Red Pill

The Red Pill

When I was in second grade, a large Russian women showed up at school and frightened the day lights out of us. She said, “If you don't brush, they will rot!!". Then we walked into room with little sinks, and given a little red pill to put into our mouths.

“Chew. Chew. Brush until the red is gone!!". Of course, I brushed so hard my gums started bleeding, and made the red in my mouth even worse. From that day on, I was convinced to brush and floss my teeth everyday.

This is how the dental profession used a grass roots movement to teach children at an early age to follow proper dental hygiene for a lifetime. Two questions: how many children in your town will still be visiting a dentist when they are 25 years old? How many of them will be receiving chiropractic check-ups at 25 years old? The power of your patient education can be measured by how many children receive a chiropractic check-up each month in your practice.

The real question is whether you feel your practice is the headquarters of a movement in your town. Your little red pill should be a story of the depleting healing power in the body due to the stress of life. The restoration of the optimal levels of this power is possible through  a specific chiropractic check-up. Every man, woman and child should be making a priority out of scheduling their own check-up as soon as possible. This week, lead with a purpose-driven initiative to turn your story into a steady stream of check-ups in your schedule book. This is your opportunity to to start the movement and expand the consciousness of chiropractic beyond symptoms into a lifetime of spinal and neurologial health.

Until next time...Practice with passion.

True North: In God We Trust

Of all the phrases that could have been placed upon our currency, our founding fathers chose simply and powerfully where to place our foundation.

In God We Trust.

Why? I believe it is said best in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans". What came of it? The creation of the most powerful and abundant country in the world. What has happened to our country, as we have begun to move away from God? Many feel He is removing His blessings as we remove Him.  In the same way, chiropractic is based upon unchanging principles which act as the foundational core for all practice success. Yet what happens when we move away from subluxation as our foundation? The prosperity of our practices begins to deminish.

Where is our trust? You can feel muscle tension, look at vertebrae on an X-ray, but you can not see that which is responsible for all healing in the body. BJ once asked, "Do you have more faith in a spoonful of medicine than in the power that animates the living world?"  Innate power is as real as muscles, glands and bones, however it is largely unknown within your community today. This power, given to each person on this planet by our creator, is responsible for all healing in the body. If a patient is left unaware of this fact, what are they left with to have faith in? Where is their foundation?

We are in the intelligence business.  You must make your patients are made aware of this inborn power and teach them to maintain 100% of their power. If not, patients rely on what their MD or pharmacist has told them. Misinformation becomes their foundation. This week, make sure you are the one your patients are being led by, and equip them with the foundational truths which will lead them to a lifetime of optimal health and well being.

Until next time...Practice with passion.

Coach's Corner: With-holding Evidence Is A Crime

New research from Britain calls this the "Post-Antibiotic Era".
First in USA Today a few month ago and just recently, Dr. Thomas Frieden of the CDC said drug resistant "superbugs" are daily conversation now in hospitals across the country. Routine surgeries can now have deadly outcomes. For the first time, the CDC is categorizing drug-resistant superbugs by threat level. That's because, in their conservative estimates, more than 2 million people get antibiotic resistant infections each year, and at least 23,000 die because current drugs no longer stop their infections. When asked what the solution is, he replied, "we can stop recommending antibiotics as often as currently happens."

Sadly, this situation was created by the pharmaceutical profession and they don't have any another answer to the problem they created. Their hands distributed drugs that have caused permanent harm yet they don't have anyway to reverse the catastrophe that has been created. Many healthcare professions, chiropractic included, has  known about drug resistant bacteria since the mid 90's. Yet nothing has changed. Creating situations where disease can flourish should be a crime. Any person giving out antibiotics for a non-life threatening illness prior to recommending that a patient being evaluated for subluxation should be charged with endangering humanity. If you are not preaching that to each of your patients and their friends and family, then this should also be a punishable crime.
You hold the solution in your hands. What are you going to do with it?

Chiropractic is not an option or an alternative any longer in your community. It doesn't matter whether a person's insurance policy covers all, some or NONE  of their care. The human nerve system is the key to sustaining a healthy life! It is the key to maximizing one's immunity within their environment. Do not let back and neck pain get in the way of the truth, and the real message you must deliver to the people for whom you are responsible...Your town.

Coach's Corner: Burn The Ships

In 1519, is it historically believed that Cortes of Spain yelled the order, "Burn The Ships”.

Such a bold action with a dramatic result yet it only had one purpose: to have his men realize they had no opportunity for retreat. So they gave everything they had, because failure was simply not an option.

In the same way, success begins to take shape when there is a plan "A" and you do not subscribe to a plan "B".  Leadership implies you have chosen a way, a new direction, a certain path. You don't have to know or understand every step that will be needed for you to take in order to choose a direction.

Often, our greatest intimidation comes from what we need to let go of, rather than from something we need to add to our performance. When you create the circumstance where there is no other option than to move forward, real change has a chance to take root. You are always given the grace to make mistakes and still succeed. Where there is little to no grace, is the space of indecision or even worse, unchanging stubbornness.

This week, ask yourself how clear is the direction you are leading your practice, your patients and your community. There is massive power in being bold. In being unique. In holding fast to a set of principles people can shape their lives around. There is massive power in implying you are leading a movement, than to appear to be just a clinic where some people come to receive treatment. Where is the greatness in that?!

If you notice several ships parked outside your office…light a fire.

Until next time...Practice with passion.

Coach's Corner: The Main Thing Is Keeping The Main Thing The Main Thing

There is a big difference between your "to do" list and your "to be" list.

It is very easy to get distracted or overwhelmed by how much there is to get to done. On the other hand, it is clear and simple when it comes to thinking about what matters most to you in life. Your core beliefs and values shape the qualities and characteristics needed to become a huge success. There isn't a single day (yes, including your weekends) that you should ever miss internalizing the principles and values which are the foundation for all your future success and prosperity.

Ironically, as you keep those things that matter most in mind, your to-do list begins to prioritize in the most magical way. Time management is nothing more than "priority" management. Keeping your mind active by thoughts and images of the main thing, inspires greater action on those things which matter most. I'm not saying those actions are all going to be easy, but because you hold greater meaning to these actions, you are able to push through and make them happen.

Is that scheduling a series of outside talks or screenings?
Is that talking powerful and efficient Tic at every adjustment?
Is that preparing to give highly inspiring and effective team trainings?
Is that learning to use your voice more influentially in your report of findings?

This week, recognize that all stimuli in your environment are either bringing you closer or further away from your main thing. Notice when you are getting pulled away or distracted by something that has little or no meaning to your future success, and instantly change your focus on to something which drives more passion and purpose. Only then, can you move forward with the clarity and confidence which is responsible for all big practice growth.

Until next time...Practice with passion.

True North: Ordinary to ExtraOrdinary

This year, I want to see you attract more new patients. It all starts with the understanding each and every person has a life story waiting to include you in it. There is a new patient for your practice, inside every person you meet. Why?

The nerve system is responsible for all the daily healing, metabolism and repair in the body. Stress has been found to subtly shift the human structure, and interfere with the normal flow of nerve supply in the body. This often takes weeks or months before it develops into pain or dysfunction. Every man, woman and child will fall victim to this process because it is caused by universal forces which are unavoidable. Once you recognize the depth of this principle, you will create a continuous waiting list of new patients in your life.

Extraordinary marketing begins when you have fully convinced yourself of the following; they NEED you now, they are LOOKING for you now, they are READY now, YOU are ready now! It's not IF new patients will call you today, rather how many people who need to call you because of the amount suffering happening in your town today.

Marketing always starts with a vision that stirs both emotion and soul, if it has any value at all. You have to be willing to reach out to people who don't know how to reach out to you. You can either see this as futile or the biggest opportunity you will ever encounter. Every chiropractor should have the vision of attracting a minimum of three hundred new people (25NP's/Mo) onto their schedule book each year. Twice that number of new patients is very doable, if you understand the mechanism which produces this result.

There are FIVE key components to creating an extraordinary marketing campaign;
Vision ~  Planning ~ Effort ~  Results ~ Analysis.

No amount of planning or effort will exceed the vision you hold for serving your community. On the other hand, with clear vision and the right plan of action, nothing can keep you from accomplishing your goals. Great planning always asks the right questions; what are your strengths? What's your budget?  Who will help you put the right pieces of your plan in place? Who will help you execute the plan? Any blanks in this equation, often leads to a sputtering and eventual shutdown of a marketing plan. You can (and will) always adjust a solid plan as it is now in play, but anything else is usually just referred to as "winging it". The best plan is the one which is simple to follow, and simple to repeat. There is no such thing as a perfect plan, but plans whose vision face true north, smash their goals most of the time.

What's the plan? Reach out to more people everyday with the intent to give them a check-up that will change their life.

Now it's go time. Effort is the result of your focus, attitude, energy, skill and knowledge. Extraordinary marketing results happen when you learn to play like you have nothing to lose. Your purpose is to build new relationships, but you don't know with whom you will make a new connection. Therefore, reach out passionately with everyone. Whether you are asking for referrals table side, inspiring a workshop audience to share your message with friends and family, performing an outside talk, leading a spinal screening or connecting to people through social media, not everyone is going to say "yes". When you tell someone the value of your spine and nerve evaluation, and ask them to schedule an appointment, that's between you and God. In other words, your job is now done - so make sure to do it with tremendous passion, purpose and pride in your work! The decision a person makes to say "yes" and schedule a new patient appointment, is between them and God. The more you focus on results that are not in your control, the less influence you will have regarding things which truly are under your control.

Extraordinary marketing at it's core, is highly trackable. In one sense, you can say it's a numbers game. However, when tracked properly, the deck is highly stacked in your favor. Nothing happens by chance. There is a "cause and effect" relationship inside all your marketing efforts. Simply knowing the source of each new patient, the total draw of scheduled NP appointments from any specific campaign, the total show rate of scheduled NP appointments from each marketing campaign, the conversion rates as well as the ROI generated from each campaign, and you are sailing your ship like a Fortune 500 CEO! The time and energy to track your results, allows you to adjust your sails by pin point training improvements, which provides you an even greater chance for success the next time around. Monthly analysis can help generate over one hundred percent increase from the SAME investment you have already committed to your marketing plan. It is truly the secret weapon to any extraordinary marketing campaign.

Do you realize 4 out of the 5 key components are completely in your control?

When you allocate the majority of your mindshare on those elements you can really affect change, abundance begins to crop up all around you. This year, critically look at these core elements and embrace those which you have either ignored or misunderstood. They are there for every chiropractor's prosperity, because they are built upon the principles which govern all success. Ask for help, and be open to experience some uncomfortable stretch. It's what all of us have had to go through to learn the truth, and witness the extraordinary results which follow.

Until next time, practice with passion.

Coach's Corner: Staying The Same Or Improving

Stay the Same. Improve.

Both Take Work

In some ways, staying the same is harder than making a well thought out change.

Why? Because you are working hard, but deep down you know what you are currently doing isn't producing the results you want. This is true for all of us. The difference between where you are now and where you want to be next...are just a few key decisions. The very actions you have grown accustom to today in your practice, were forged from earlier decisions you made. Those decisions are not limited to just your patient procedures.

Does your practice feel more like a traditional religious service which is memorized and routine or like an evangelical service where people are praising, singing and proclaiming their faith?
Does your practice give gifts all year long to patients or perhaps just for a birthday?
Does your practice host parties, lunches or get togethers with your patients every month?
Does your practice communicate with businesses, churches and schools in your community every month?

My point is, all these actions must be sparked by a new decision.
Not making a new decision, is in fact a decision in itself.

This week, take a critical look at the actions and procedures you regularly perform, and ask yourself what decisions have led you to these behaviors. Which ones are adding value to your patients? Which ones have lost their edge? Then make a short list of the results you most want to produce in your practice over the next six to twelve months. What new decisions are just sitting there in front of you, waiting for you to take the next step? I know it's never easy, but this process is exactly what every great chiropractor I have ever coached has struggled through and triumply implemented.

Trust me, the work is worth it.

Until next time...Practice with passion.
